Meltdown and Spectre : Intel Processor Flaws Open A Wide Door To Spying Vulnerability

A spine chilling discovery – especially to AI humanoids(chuckle) of processor vulnerability which can be exploited is currently topping I.T news trends. The newly-discovered processor bug in Intel, AMD, and ARM chipsets spans over a modern generation of processors. The flaw has been named Meltdown and Spectre.

Unlike most common vulnerabilities which are in software, this one exists in the CPU hardware firmware which is the brains of any computerized devise and affects most operating systems which run on CPU chips including Microsoft Windows, Linux, Android, MacOS, iOS, ChromebookOS, Linux and other operating systems. The scary part is that the plugging  hole can negatively affect your PC’s performance and can be used to steal information from any devise by directly accessing the kernel or CPU architecture. Our beloved mobile cellphones are not spared as well.

In the shortest and simplified explanation, the vulnerabilities allow read access to kernel-memory location and breaks down the barrier between applications which opens holes for spying any kind of data kept by any application be it passwords, PINs, access numbers, credit card numbers and any stored data. Many security companies have launched a research on Meltdown and Spectre with Google Project Zero also confirming that ChromeOS is equally affected. You can read more about these architecture flaws here and here as well.

It is strongly advised to patch your devise/s with the relevant updates to avoid any exploitation or critical data loss. Find more information from a dedicated Meltdown website and Windows patches for Server and client
